JEE Advanced AAT (Architecture Aptitude Test) Exam Structure

JEE Advanced AAT (Architecture Aptitude Test)

A unique entrance exam called the Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) is administered to candidates who wish to enroll in Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) programs at specific Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). The AAT is designed to assess a candidate’s creative and design skills rather than their theoretical knowledge and is administered by the same organization that administers JEE Advanced.

AAT only offers architecture programs at a small number of IITs, specifically:

History, Overview, and Purpose

History: The AAT was created as a centralized “aptitude” filter to make sure candidates had the particular skills (drawing and visualization) needed for a program that focused heavily on design. Historically, admission to architecture at IITs was handled through a variety of channels.

Purpose: There is no rank provided by the test. Its only objective is to attest to an applicant’s talent for architecture. Due to the limited number of seats available in IIT B.Arch programs, the AAT serves as a “pass/fail” requirement.

Admission Logic: During JoSAA counseling, your JEE Advanced All India Rank (AIR) determines your ultimate seat allocation if you pass the AAT.
